I have served for the past two years as Chair of the Wastewater Committee and I have been working with the Town of James Island, the City of Charleston, and Charleston County on the water quality task force to clean up James Island Creek. Years ago, when I was a Charleston Soil and Water District Commissioner, I worked on a project to clean up Bulls Bay with an EPA 319 Grant. The oyster beds in Bulls Bay had been closed for harvesting because of human and animal waste contamination, but working with EPA, DHEC, farmers and homeowners in the area we manage to clean up the bay and the oyster beds were soon reopened. I hope I can put my expertise in this area to work with the newly-formed James Island Creek Water Quality Task Force.
The Dills Bluff Boardwalk is a great place to see the marsh(and bird watching) that is part of the James Island Creek watershed. The boardwalk on an old dike was part of a cesspool that was used before the James Island Public Service District provided sewer service to the islanders.
Please re-elect me so I can continue working on the project.
